Regional Aquatic Facility

Mount Barker Mountain Pool

Federal funding

On Saturday 2 June 2018, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball announced that Mount Barker District Council was successful in obtaining $10 million to build a new aquatic facility for Mount Barker.

Future needs

With a current preferred location near the Regional Sports Hub (Bald Hills Road Mount Barker) the new aquatic centre aims to provide a contemporary aquatic and recreation opportunity for the Adelaide Hills region.

Mount Barker District Council will continue to work with State Government and other regional partners to secure further funding to assist in delivering this project. On-going engagement with key user groups and the broader community will continue as the project progresses.

Current facility

The Mount Barker Mountain Pool is an ageing facility (almost 60 years old) and at the end of its life. While in an attractive setting close to the centre of Town, the pool structures and associated plant and equipment are out of date to cater for our growing community. The site itself is not large enough to accommodate a modern facility and will be decommissioned in favour of the new facility.

Council is within the planning and design phase and is:

  • Developing a precinct and facility concept plan that addresses the current and future needs of the community
  • Continuing to explore commercial opportunities to enable the viable construction and operations of the new facility
  • Engaging with industry, key stakeholders and broader community on the project
